How to Make Money Blogging
Thinking of starting a blog or already have one? You found this blog post, so you are probably on a mission to figure out how you can make money blogging. First, look at the three examples I’ve listed below of other bloggers who have made money through funnel marketing.
How Others Make a Living Blogging
Darren Rowse says in his article, From Hobby to Profession, that he has slowly built his blogging into an income source. Did you get that? Slowly. He didn’t become a success overnight.
When Darren started blogging, he worked three jobs and blogged on the side. In 2005 he expected to “generate a six-figure income”. According to his article, How to Make $30,000 a year Blogging, written in 2015, he has made $50,000 AUD in a year.
Bill Belew makes a living blogging. He pays his mortgage through money that he makes from blogging. Bill, who encouraged me to start my own blogging meetup, became successful by blogging consistently.
When I met Bill Belew, I was working full time and blogging on the side. He assured me that it’s possible to blog daily in addition to working a day job. Bill advised what he had practiced himself. As a professor, he worked and kept up with blogging.
Carol Tice blogs about making a living writing. She shows how she made $5,000 a month by blogging. Carol is popular for her “practical help to hungry writers” and Freelance Writers Den. The fee for joining the Writers Den is $25 per month, and there are approximately 1,200 members.
Map Out a Blog Funnel
Successful bloggers use blog funnels. Study the blogs of Darren Rowse, Bill Belew, and Carol Tice, and observe the funnels they have used. Darren offers multiple resources such as his book, Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, social media, multiple blogs, and speaking, to name a few.
Funnels that Bill Belew has used include blogging at billbelew.com, writing for examiner.com, speaking internationally and publishing the book, How Wilby Got 20 Million (to read his blogs). Bill operates a forum that you can join at forum.billbelew.com.
Carol Tice, who also has a forum, is a business writer and has published multiple articles and e-books and the book, The Pocket Small Business Owners Guide to Starting Your Business on a Shoestring, to help freelance writers. Her writing has been featured in the annual Writer’s Market book.

Funnel Ideas
What are a few funnel ideas that you can use as a beginning or intermediate blogger? Listed below are six funnels that I have made money with:
- Teach blog workshops
- Teach a blogging course at a writer’s retreat
- Write a monthly blogging column in an online newsletter
- Coach beginner bloggers
- Set up blogs for individuals (or businesses)
- Write articles
Map out your funnel plan. Add your own ideas to any of these listed above or ones suggested by professional bloggers.
See how other successful bloggers have profited through blogging, and learn from them. Watch free webinars, and sign up for courses or modules that are often offered online (if you can and are able to afford them). A blogger who is struggling to make ends meet may choose to stick with free options at first.
Your email can become terribly crowded when you start signing up for free newsletters and offers to help you learn more about blogging. Choose wisely, or you’ll experience major overload.
